Bloomsday Breakfast

The James Joyce Centre plays host to the Guinness Bloomsday Breakfast. Pictures of some of the notables as they drop in to pay their respects, chat to Joyceans, and sample the black stuff...

Bloomsday, 16th June 1904, is celebrated every year all over the world by Joycean scholars and ordinary fans of Joyce's Ulysses.

As an exile, Joyce had a bizarre fixation with Dublin, which is the setting for most of his writing.  Dublin is also the place where Joyceans flock from all over the planet to re-enact the odyssey of Leopold Bloom as he spent one day in this unique city...

Bewley's Staff on hand with the Munchies.. Every Bloomsday the James Joyce Centre plays host to the Guinness Bloomsday Breakfast.

That's right, we had a pint with our rashers and egg... Just the thing to get people chatting at eight in the morning.

Outgoing (and not returning) Education Minister Gemma Hussey, TD.

The hero of Ulysses, Leopold Bloom, and his creator looking proudly over his shoulder!

Senator David Norris (world's leading Joycean scholar, legaliser of homosexuality in Ireland, and neighbour of the Centre) has a chuckle with Bertie Ahern, TD, leader of Fianna Fail, who (at this time) was negotiating to form the next Government of Ireland.  Bertie is now Taoiseach (Prime Minister).

(from left) Bob Joyce, grandson of James Joyce, Bertie Ahern, TD (now Prime Minister of Ireland), James Fennessy of adnet, and Peter McLaughlin, Attorney at Law and Sponsor of the James Joyce Centre web-site.

Service with a smile... most of the time!

Senator Norris suprises Frank Kelly (who plays the old Father Jack in the hit TV show, Father Ted).

Fun for all the family.

A little Edwardian elegance from a member of the Joyce family (whose first name is also Joyce, I believe!)
